The 7 Movies You Won't Want To Miss This Winter
Get to the theater and grab the popcorn.
For a while, I stopped going to the movie theater. It seemed so much easier to wait for a movie to stream. I could get up and press pause when I needed to go to the bathroom or wanted a snack.
But recently I have rediscovered the joy of going to the movies. I had forgotten how nice it is to really immerse yourself in a film at the movie theater without getting distracted by your phone or trying to multitask. To paraphrase Nicole Kidman, movies can be magic. Whether it’s sci-fi, romance, or comedy, movies can transport us to new worlds — even for just a few hours.
This winter, there is no shortage of great movies to choose from, including tear-jerking biopics, blockbuster sequels, and comedies too. So, grab a bucket of popcorn and check out these seven options.
Elsinore
This biographical drama is about the inspiring story of Scottish actor Ian Charleson (Andrew Scott). The film follows his final months in the late 1980s as he prepares to star in a London production of Hamlet while also dealing privately with his deteriorating health. Olivia Colman will play Charleson’s doctor.
Scheduled release November 20th
Focker in Law
If you are looking for a laugh this holiday season, the Focker family is returning to the big screen, and the “circle of trust” may be getting a little bigger. Greg (Ben Stiller) and Pam’s (Teri Polo) son Henry brings his new girlfriend Olivia (Ariana Grande) home to meet the family. Will Henry’s parents welcome Olivia with open arms? And how will Henry’s grandfather Jack (Robert DeNiro) react to a prospective new in-law?
Scheduled release November 25th
Violent Night 2
In this sequel to the 2022 box office success Violent Night, Santa Claus (David Harbour) isn’t feeling very festive. He has been left stranded in a New Jersey mall and is cut off from his magic powers. Will Santa be able to rediscover the meaning of Christmas while also fighting off some very bad guys in his neighborhood? The answer is probably yes, especially since he has enlisted the help of his wife, the always supportive Mrs. Claus (Kristen Bell).
Scheduled release December 1st
Avengers Doomsday
Fans of superhero sagas will be excited with this sequel to 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. This action-packed movie has superheroes from three different universes uniting to fight off the evil Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). The mega-ensemble film will include many legendary superheroes such as Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Black Widow (Florence Pugh).
Scheduled release December 18th
Dune: Part Three
The third and final film in director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy takes place 12 years after Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) seizes control of the universe as Emperor. Based on the book Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert, the film has an all-star cast including Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Robert Pattinson and Florence Pugh.
Scheduled release December 18th
Jumanji: Open World
Yet another sequel, and this one is perfect for a family day at the movie theater. The characters of the fictional world of Jumanji (including those played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Kevin Hart) try to escape and re-enter the real world.
Scheduled release December 25th
Mr. Irrelevant
This sports biopic is based on the true story of John Tuggle (David Corenswet). The New York Giants drafted Tuggle as the last pick in the 1983 NFL draft (the final pick is often tongue-in-cheek referred to as Mr. Irrelevant). The film follows Tuggle as he works to defy the odds and make the team’s regular-season roster. In addition, Tuggle makes a major impact on the team beyond the talent he brought to the football field.
Scheduled release December 25th
