Autumn is basically the universe's gift to us: perfect weather, gorgeous foliage, cozy vibes and, as it turns out, a whole lot of free stuff. Whether you're looking to get outside, soak up some culture, or just score a free coffee or donut while you look at the leaves, we've got the ultimate roundup of fall freebies just for you. Mark your calendars, grab a friend, and go.
The Outdoors Are Calling (Free National Parks)
The National Park Service offered 10 fee-free days in 2026 for U.S. citizens and residents — that's entrance fees waived at all 100-plus parks that normally charge admission. (Camping, parking, and tours may still cost extra, and you may need a timed entry reservation at the most popular parks.) The fall dates include September 17 (Constitution Day), a weekday free day, which may mean lighter crowds. Another one is October 27 (Theodore Roosevelt's birthday) when peak fall foliage at many parks around the country makes this a bucket-list time to visit. Teddy would approve.
There's also November 11 (Veterans Day). Explore a national battlefield, historic site, or park. Arlington House, Gettysburg, and Antietam are always free, but this is a great day to explore somewhere new. Download the NPS app to view real-time park conditions, trail maps and alerts.
Culture Rocks (Free Museums)
The Bank of America Museums on Us Program
If you have a Bank of America, Merrill, or Bank of America Private Bank credit or debit card, flash it at the admission desk on the first full weekend of every month and get free general admission at more than 225 museums nationwide across 40 states.
Fall 2026 dates:
- September 5-6
- October 3–4
- November 7–8
Participating museums include the National WWII Museum in New Orleans (normally $26–$36!), the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in NYC, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and dozens more. New York City Free Museum Nights
- MoMA is now free for all New York State residents every Friday from 5:30–8:30 p.m.— with drop-in drawing classes, live music and a pop-up bar.
- The Whitney Museum offers free Friday nights (5–10 p.m.) and free second Sundays all day.
- The Brooklyn Museum hosts First Saturdays (free, 5–11 p.m.) in October with extended hours and special programming.
- The Frick Collection opens free to the public 5:30–9 p.m. on the first Friday of the month (only October and November in fall).
- MoMA PS1 in Long Island City is now free for all as of January 2026.
San Francisco Favorites
Bay Area girlfriends, you've got options:
- The de Young Museum and Legion of Honor: Free every first Tuesday of the month AND every Saturday for Bay Area residents (9 counties).
- Asian Art Museum: Free admission every first Sunday of the month, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
- The Japanese Tea Garden: Free Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings for visitors who arrive between 9 and 10 a.m.
Smell the Roses (Free Botanical Gardens)
Smithsonian Gardens, Washington D.C. — Seven distinct gardens surrounding the museums are all free and open to the public. Fall is stunning here, especially the Pollinator Garden with its late-season butterflies and the sweeping Enid A. Haupt Garden with its autumn colors.
New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) — Free grounds admission for NYC residents every Wednesday (all day) and for all visitors from 10–11 a.m. on Wednesdays. The fall foliage across 250 acres is spectacular.
Denver Botanic Gardens — Free admission day on November 27 (the day after Thanksgiving). A lovely way to decompress from the holiday.
Wave Hill, Bronx, NY — This stunning public garden and cultural center overlooking the Hudson River is free every Thursday. In fall, the views of the Palisades and the foliage are stunning.
Dance Your Heart Out (Free Concerts)
Library of Congress — Free All Fall
The Library of Congress' acclaimed Concerts from the Library of Congress series runs through the fall in the gorgeous Coolidge Auditorium on Capitol Hill — and every single event is free to the public. This fall's programming includes a special October 29–30 mini-festival celebrating 101 years of music at the Library, featuring commissions from contemporary composers. Free tickets are distributed via Eventbrite; grab them early and arrive at least 30 minutes ahead. (Loc.gov/concerts)
The Library Also Does This:
"Live! At the Library" happens every Thursday from 5–8 p.m. — free evening programming in the Great Hall of the Thomas Jefferson Building. Family Day at the Library offers free Saturday activities monthly, 10:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Eat Up (Free Food & Restaurant Freebies)
These require a little planning. The single best thing you can do for fall freebies is join restaurant loyalty programs. Sign up and download their apps to participate.
- Chipotle: Free chips and guac when you sign up
- Auntie Anne's: Free pretzel on sign up, plus a birthday pretzel
- Baskin-Robbins: Free regular scoop after your first qualified purchase
- Sonic: Free root beer float on your birthday
- Village Inn: Free pie slices every Wednesday with the purchase of an entrée and beverage — all year long
- Krispy Kreme: The app regularly features seasonal giveaways and free donut offers; fall flavors are a highlight
- Burger King: With any purchase, you get free French fries in any size through their app
- The Wendy's Frosty Deal: For a small one-time purchase of a Frosty Key Tag (or through the Wendy's app), you get a free Frosty every single day for all of 2026. And 90 percent of proceeds go to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption
Birthday Freebies — Fall Edition
If your birthday falls in September through November, restaurants will practically roll out the red carpet. More than 194 businesses offer free stuff on your birthday, including Sephora, Chipotle, Starbucks (free drink), Dunkin' (free drink), and dozens of local chains. Sign up a few weeks before your birthday so the offers activate in time to celebrate.
A Few Bonus Freebies
T-Mobile Tuesdays: Every Tuesday, T-Mobile customers get a new list of freebies in the app — free food, deals, and experiences. Worth checking weekly.
Target Circle 360 Members: Receive a gift or coupon in their account on the first of every month, while supplies last.
Blue Star Museums: Active-duty military and their families can visit hundreds of museums free from Armed Forces Day through Labor Day. Check the Blue Star Museums website for a full list of participants.
