Relaxing on the sofa to binge-watch a new series with friends can’t be beat. However, introducing a physical activity you can all do together can help enhance your health, teach you new skills, and create memories. In fact, working out with friends ensures you’ll have built-in accountability partners, plus folks to commiserate with over sore muscles. It’s a win/win!

When seeking out something you can all do together, start by choosing something fun. You can always ratchet up the physical demands once you’ve established a routine. For now, simply focus on getting everyone organized and out there. Wondering how to do that? Here are our top tips.

Don’t Be Afraid Trying Something New

It’s okay to be beginners! In fact, it’s actually better if no one in the group has a lot of experience in the activity you propose. It levels the playing field and means everyone will be on the same learning curve. So, go ahead and try something new together. Community centers and online Meet-Up groups are packed with listings for unusual classes and events. Belly dancing, aerial yoga, shuffle dancing, freestyle jump roping – choose one or try out several options before deciding as a group.

Make the Most of Your Numbers

Optimize the power of a group and consider participating in fitness activities like dragon boating, or a team sport like volleyball. That way, you’ll all be working together toward a shared goal. Another possibility: Create challenges – complete with prizes and trophies – amongst yourselves to motivate everyone to go for the gold.

Run (or Walk) For a Cause

Know what’s even better than exercise endorphins? The amazing feeling you get from helping an important cause while also working out. Lots of communities host events like Stair Climbs and Polar Bear Plunges for charities, where participants raise money to participate. And since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there’s probably a 5K in your area that your group could do together while donating to a great cause.

For over six years, Easy Spirit has championed the fight against breast cancer as part of its ongoing commitment to the women who inspire the brand every day. This October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Easy Spirit will donate a minimum of $25,000 from its limited edition “Move for Pink” Ace Sneaker to Shoes for a Cure, the footwear industry’s annual fundraising effort that supports breast cancer research, including the work of internationally renowned breast surgeon and researcher, Dr. Lisa Newman.
